3 Emergency Solutions To Help Fight Back Flood Waters And Prevent Damage To Your Home

Posted on: 26 April 2016

When your home is flooding, it is important to start fighting back right away. Keeping the water at bay can greatly reduce the damage that is done to your property. It can also make the restoration process a lot easier. You will want to fight back against the flood water and clean your home to keep the water out. Here are some solutions that can help you reduce the damage that a flood can do to your home:

1. Get The Buckets And Start Bailing The Water Out

If you can keep the water out of your home, you will be in a good position when it comes to doing the repairs that are going to be needed. Use whatever resources you have available to start bailing the water out of your home. This can be buckets or hoses that you have handy and can start using to pump the water out. Any type of small pump can also help with the process of bailing the water out of your home.

2. Take Everything Up Before The Water Starts Flooding In

When the water starts to flood into your home, you are not going to have time to get your personal possessions or remove materials like carpet. If you see the water is rising, try to start taking everything up before the water flows in. This can be something that saves you from having to replace furniture or carpet. For the carpet, leave the pad and only take the carpet up because it will be cheaper if you only have to replace the padding and not all the carpet.

3. Start Drying Your Home Out As Soon As The Water Starts To Subside

Once the water starts to subside, you will be ready to start drying your home out and cleaning up the damage. Pump the water out as quickly as possible, then begin pumping the water out to reduce damage to your home. Use fans to keep the air circulating in your home to keep things dry. If you have an attic fan, you can turn it one and open windows for better ventilation.

Getting a head start pushing back the flood waters will make dealing with water damage a lot easier. It can still be a daunting task and prevention is key to reducing your repair costs. If this is not the first time this has happened to your home, contact a drainage service and talk with them about improving drainage around your home or installing a dry well to keep the water at bay.
